COLIN HIGGS FROM WEST BROMWICH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AT BIRMINGHAM CROWN COURT

In November 2017, a man from West Bromwich named Colin Higgs was brought before Birmingham Crown Court to face serious allegations related to online sexual offences. Higgs, who had a disturbing fixation involving toilets, pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a minor for sexual purposes after engaging in a detailed and explicit online grooming process.

According to court proceedings, Higgs had initiated contact with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl through an online profile. The chat logs revealed a pattern of highly inappropriate and sexually explicit messages, in which Higgs demanded that the girl perform various sexual acts on herself. The messages also included depraved references to defecation and faeces, highlighting Higgs’s unusual and disturbing fetish.

The chat logs further disclosed that Higgs had a specific interest in the girl recording herself on the toilet, so he could listen to her using it. This bizarre request was part of his ongoing attempts to indulge his fetish through the online conversation.

Higgs made arrangements to meet the girl in person at the toilets within the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham, intending to carry out sexual acts. However, his plans were thwarted when police, acting on information from the online child protection team known as ‘Totnes Justice,’ intercepted him. The team had set up a decoy profile to catch individuals like Higgs, and they provided the chat logs to the police, which confirmed Higgs’s intentions.

When Higgs arrived at the designated meeting point, he was promptly arrested by law enforcement officers. The court was informed that Higgs’s actions demonstrated a clear intent to exploit a minor for sexual gratification, which led to his guilty plea.

As a result of his conviction, Higgs was sentenced to two years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, a measure intended to monitor and restrict his activities following his release from custody.
