Callum Martyr

Basildon Sexual Abuser

December 2019 Pervert banned from speaking to girls for six years A pervert has been banned from speaking to girls for six years. Callum Martyr, 20, groomed and sexually abused a pre teen girl. The man has avoided jail after admitting two offences but is banned from talking to girls aged under 16 for the next six years. Basildon Crown Court heard that Martyr, who was 18 at the time, tired to convince his victim to carry out actions of a sexual nature despite being told she did not like it. Diana Pigot, prosecuting, said: “The girl said the defendant would pay her compliments, which made her feel loved. “However, when he tried to touch her this would make her upset, and she would push him away.” Martyr was caught out due to inappropriate messages on a phone which led to a police investigation. Martyr, of Wickhay, Basildon was subsequently charged. He admitted one serious sexual assault and one count of sexual assault by touching. The court, during mitigation, heard Martyr may not have the same mental capacity of others at his age which was not used to justify his actions but was asked to be taken into consideration, Christopher Martin, mitigating, told the court that Martyr suffered from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and has “more limited cognitive ability” than most people his age. He said he has difficulty forming and developing relationships, and his education has also suffered. Judge Samantha Leigh told Martyr: “It was quite clear that you knew of her age and when the sexual touching took place she said ‘no’ and that she didn’t want it. She added he would know that a physical relationship with a pre teen girl was inappropriate and she could not give consent. Martyr was jailed for two years but the sentence was then suspended for two years. He was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and 60 hours of rehabilitation activity. He was also made subject of a restraining order meaning he cannot contact the victim.
