KENNETH LOTT OF BASELIDON SENTENCED FOR 30 YEARS OF CHILD ABUSE IN BASELIDON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Basildon, Kenneth Lott, aged 42, has been sentenced to prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of three decades. The crimes, which involved the abuse of multiple young girls, began when Lott was only 12 years old and continued into his late 30s, culminating in a particularly egregious assault on a nine-year-old girl.According to court records, Lott, residing on Clay Hill Road in Basildon, admitted to a total of ten charges related to sexual misconduct. These included five counts of indecent assault, one charge of gross indecency, and four counts of sexual touching. The court heard that his first known offenses occurred between 1978 and 1981, when he was just a child himself, targeting a girl under the age of 13. Over the years, his offending persisted, with additional assaults on girls under 14 occurring between 1997 and 1998, and further incidents involving children under 13 in 2006 and 2007.
During the sentencing hearing at Basildon Crown Court, Judge Rupert Overbury condemned Lott’s actions, emphasizing the severity and duration of his misconduct. The judge stated, “You have conducted a number of sexual attacks on young girls. These began when you were 12 years old and carried on until you were about 40, the most serious being the sexual attacks on a nine-year-old when you were in your late thirties.”
In mitigation, Lott’s defense lawyer, Maria Dineen, expressed her client’s remorse and shame. She explained that Lott was “deeply ashamed” of his actions and struggled to understand his own behaviour. Dineen added, “It is no exaggeration to say he is racked with guilt.”
When Lott was arrested last year, he cooperated fully with police, making candid admissions about his crimes. During police interviews, he revealed that some of the assaults occurred when he was “physically and sexually immature,” though he insisted that none involved violence or full sexual acts. Lott also reportedly told authorities that he was in need of help to control his “desire” for young girls.
A probation report following his arrest classified him as being at medium risk of re-offending, highlighting the ongoing concern about his potential to commit further offenses. The court’s decision resulted in a sentence of four and a half years in prison, along with a lifelong ban preventing him from being alone with children.
Judge Overbury’s verdict underscores the gravity of Lott’s crimes and the impact on his victims. The community of Basildon, which has been deeply affected by this case, now faces the difficult task of healing and ensuring the safety of its children from individuals like Kenneth Lott.
