BERNARD SCULLION'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN SOUTHPORT AND WALLASEY REVEALED
In a disturbing case that spans multiple countries and years, Bernard Scullion, a man originally from Wallasey, Wirral, has been at the center of a series of serious criminal activities that have left a lasting impact on his victims and the community.Back in January 2004, Scullion was sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of assaulting a 13-year-old girl. His criminal record also includes a conviction for possessing child pornography on his computer, which added to the severity of his offenses. Despite serving only five months of his sentence, Scullion was released on licence, a conditional release that allows prisoners to serve part of their sentence outside prison under specific conditions.
However, shortly after his release, Scullion made a shocking decision to flee the United Kingdom. He traveled to Pattaya, Thailand, effectively evading the authorities and the legal restrictions placed upon him. His departure was not unnoticed; the father of the girl he assaulted, who cannot be named for legal reasons, dedicated significant resources and thousands of pounds to tracking him down. This father expressed his determination to ensure that justice was served, stating, "The money and effort I spent in finding Scullion has been worthwhile if my child grows up knowing that I did something about it."
He further added, "He shouldn’t have left the country, and I was prepared to go to the absolute limit to get him back here. I was determined that he was not going to get away." The pursuit was relentless, and it ultimately led to Scullion’s arrest in Thailand in September 2005. The authorities detained him in Bangkok after discovering that he had violated the conditions of his sex offender registration and had traveled without approval, despite being banned from doing so.
During his time abroad, Scullion had sent postcards describing his travels, claiming he was heading to the Gulf of Mexico to work and promising to keep in touch. These postcards, sent to his probation officer, painted a picture of a man on a long journey, with one from Penang, Malaysia, and another from Thailand. In one message, he described his trip as "one hell of a journey so far." Despite these claims, investigations revealed that he was not working but had instead gone to Thailand to retire. His continued correspondence, signed simply as "from Bernie," indicated he was still on the move, with plans to go to Australia as per his last postcard.
His arrest marked a turning point. After a month in a Bangkok detention center awaiting deportation, Scullion chose to pay for his own flight back to the UK. He was subsequently arrested at Heathrow Airport. During the court proceedings, his defense argued that he had received death threats following his conviction, which resumed after his release from custody. The threats, he claimed, prompted his decision to escape, as he lacked confidence in the police’s ability to protect him.
In court, Scullion pleaded guilty to breaching the terms of his license and was sentenced to an additional four months in prison, to run concurrently with his existing sentence. He remains in custody until February 2007.
Behind the scenes of his criminal activities lies a story of betrayal and abuse. Scullion was employed by the victim’s family as a chauffeur, responsible for transporting their children from school during their teenage years. Over time, his trusted position was exploited for sinister purposes. The father alleges that Scullion preyed upon his 13-year-old daughter over a period of six months, grooming her and exposing her to disturbing images and behaviors.
He claims that Scullion introduced his daughter to prostitutes working the streets of Birkenhead and shared details of his own sexual encounters with women. The father also states that Scullion showed his daughter indecent images on his computer and intoxicated her with vodka. The family’s trust was shattered as they discovered the extent of his manipulations.
He recounts that Scullion would see his children multiple times a week, taking his daughter to McDonald’s and on various outings, including bowling. The father expressed his shock at the betrayal, saying, "We never could have imagined the real extent of his intentions." After suspecting that his daughter might have confided in them, the family received a letter from Scullion, which they believed was an attempt to cover his tracks. When they showed the letter to their daughter, she broke down in tears, overwhelmed by the trauma.
The father described his daughter’s emotional state as a “total mess” due to Scullion’s actions, though she is gradually recovering. Nonetheless, she remains angry and haunted by nightmares. The father concluded with a chilling warning, stating, "Scullion will have to live the rest of his life knowing that I am on his trail." His relentless pursuit underscores the profound impact of his crimes on the victim and her family, and the ongoing quest for justice in this troubling case.
