November 2012 Wallasey School deputy head Rob Hughes admits 13 child abuse images offences THE DEPUTY headteacher of Wallasey School Rob Hughes’s career was today in tatters after he admitted a string of child abuse images offences. Rob Hughes, 56, had served as the second in command at Moreton secondary Wallasey School for 17 years. But a disgraced Hughes was banned from working with children again after pleading guilty to 13 counts of making indecent photographs and computer generated “pseudo” images of children on February 14 this year. After admitting the charges on Tuesday, Hughes, of Mount Road, Wallasey, was handed an eight month prison sentence suspended for two years with a two-year supervision order. Today his former employers stressed Hughes had been sacked and had not set foot on the premises since the allegations surfaced. The school has also stressed that none of the images in his possession related to pupils at the school. Hughes was suspended as soon as the school knew of the police probe and has since been sacked by governors. Headteacher Phil Duffy said the safety of pupils was paramount – borne out by the school’s outstanding Ofsted safeguarding grading. He stressed “no offence took place involving the school or its students” and school computer equipment returned by the police “contained no inappropriate materials”. He said: “I can assure parents and carers that at no time was the wellbeing and safety of young people at risk. “Governors and I have worked closely with the local authority throughout and have followed their advice and guidance in dealing with this matter to its conclusion.” Hughes has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and banned from working with children.
