BEN JOHNSTON, DUNDEE PREDATOR, SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS AND ABUSE

A notorious predator from Dundee, Ben Johnston, has been handed an extended prison sentence after a series of disturbing sexual offenses targeting vulnerable women and a teenage girl. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned several months, culminating in his conviction for multiple serious crimes.

Johnston was found guilty by a jury at Dundee Sheriff Court of sexually assaulting two women with the intent to rape them. The first incident involved a woman who had been out celebrating payday. She encountered Johnston at a makeshift taxi rank, where he had written the word "taxi" into the dirt on his vehicle, parked near Dundee bus station. She accepted a lift home, only to be subjected to an assault during the journey. Johnston, who was sitting in his car, initially offered her a ride and then proceeded to ask her to perform a sex act. When she refused, he became aggressive, grabbing her hair and pulling her head toward his crotch. The woman’s partner did not believe her account, which led to the breakdown of their relationship, and she subsequently lost her job. The trauma from this incident has left her suffering from suicidal thoughts and a persistent fear of leaving her home, as detailed by the court.

When police arrived to discuss the incident with Johnston, they discovered him in possession of a sex toy, further highlighting his predatory tendencies. The court heard that this was just the beginning of his criminal activities.

Seven months later, Johnston’s depravity continued when he targeted a 15-year-old girl. Under the influence of alcohol, the teenage victim was picked up by Johnston, who then drove her around various locations in Dundee, including Reform Street, Panmure Street, Clatto Park, and the south car park of the Tay Bridge. During this period, Johnston sexually assaulted her with the intent to rape. The court found sufficient evidence to convict him of these acts, which occurred between July 3 and 4, 2023.

In addition to the assaults, Johnston was convicted of possessing cocaine at his residence on Strathmartine Road on December 12, 2022. His criminal behavior was thoroughly examined during the trial, and the jury’s verdict was clear.

Ben Johnston’s actions have left a trail of trauma and fear in the community. The court’s decision reflects the severity of his crimes, and he has been sentenced to four years in prison. Furthermore, he will be placed on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
