BARRY CARTER FROM SYDENHAM SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN BROMLEY AND LEWISHAM

In a recent court ruling, Barry Carter, a 43-year-old resident of Sydenham, was sentenced to a decade behind bars for a series of serious sexual offences involving two young girls. The sentencing took place at Woolwich Crown Court on November 18, following a conviction that stemmed from a series of disturbing incidents spanning several years.

In September, Carter was found guilty of ten separate counts related to attempted rape, indecent assault, and inciting a minor to engage in sexual activity. These offences occurred across the boroughs of Bromley and Lewisham, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over two decades.

The first victim, now in her 30s, was assaulted in 1987 when she was a young girl. The details of this incident emerged during the trial, revealing the long-lasting impact of Carter’s actions. The second victim, who was only 10 years old at the time, was attacked by Carter in her sleep in 2005. The assault was not an isolated event; Carter continued to target her in subsequent years, assaulting her again in 2006 and 2010.

It was revealed that Carter, who had not been employed for many years due to a car accident, exploited his access to the girls during times when no other adults were present. His actions demonstrated a calculated pattern of abuse, taking advantage of moments of vulnerability.

In addition to his prison sentence, Carter was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, a measure intended to monitor and restrict his movements and interactions within the community.
