SYDENHAM SEX OFFENDER MARLON BARNES JAILED IN LONDON
In October 2012, Marlon Barnes, a sex offender from Sydenham, was sentenced to two years in prison after assaulting a 16-year-old boy during a football coaching session. Barnes, 41, of Dartmouth Road, appeared at the Old Bailey where he was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years.The incident took place at Alexandra Recreation Ground in Penge on March 30, during a training session conducted by Barnes. The victim, who had sustained a groin injury, decided to stay behind after the session concluded, and it was then that Barnes sexually assaulted him on the pitch.
Barnes had previously been banned from coaching in 2007. He was arrested at his home on April 2 and charged five days later.
Det Con Ivan Rydqvist of the Child Abuse Investigation Command commented: “Marlon Barnes is a sexual predator who deliberately set about targeting youngsters and engaging them in football training sessions with a view to sexually exploiting them.”
