SHOP WORKER HAS BEEN JAILED AFTER HE LURED A SCHOOLGIRL INTO THE STOCKROOM, LOCKED THE DOOR AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HER
Mohammed Daqiq, employed at the Bargain World shop in Sydenham, was involved in an assault that left a 16-year-old girl deeply traumatized.A 26-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, Daqiq, was sentenced to three years in jail on March 10 and is scheduled for deportation from the UK.
In June 2024, the girl was nearby when Daqiq, whom she recognized from previous visits to the store, invited her into the shop.
The prosecutor, Tom Phillips, noted that their earlier interactions had been courteous, which initially made her un wary of his intentions.
He then locked the shop’s door and led her to the back storage area, where he embraced her.
Despite her efforts to push away, he tried to kiss her, sexually assaulted her, and forced her hands onto his genitals, as reported by Woolwich Crown Court.
After about three minutes, Daqiq released her through the rear door.
She quickly informed a friend and later reported the incident to police.
Daqiq denied the charges, but the jury found him guilty of two counts of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in non-consensual sexual activity.
The young victim described how the assault affected her confidence, yet she also said she felt some relief knowing she might have prevented further offending by reporting it.
The defendant came to the country in 2022 and whilst Judge Welsh said there was no doubt he had a difficult life in Afghanistan, she could see no connection to his offending.
He was sentenced to three years behind bars and ordered to adhere to a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
Daqiq was sentenced to three years in prison and will be deported from the UK.
