ANTHONY PEARCE FROM SWINDON FACES CHARGES OVER CHILD AND ANIMAL PORNOGRAPHY

In July 2016, a serious case involving the possession and distribution of indecent images came before the magistrates in Swindon.

The defendant, Anthony Pearce, a man with a military background, appeared in court to face charges related to the possession of explicit material involving children and animals.

Pearce, who resides on Saltash Road, was charged with multiple counts of creating and possessing indecent images, which has raised significant concern given the nature of the offences.

During the hearing, Pearce, aged 56, pleaded guilty to three separate charges of making indecent images of children.

These images were categorized by their severity, with seven images classified as Category C, twelve as Category B, and fourteen as Category A.

The images were downloaded over a period spanning from November 23, 2013, to July 17, 2014.

In addition to these, Pearce was found to possess 25 extreme pornographic images involving animals, which is considered a serious offence due to the nature of the content.

His legal representative, Ben Worthington, addressed the court, explaining that the images had been located within Pearce’s temporary internet history folder.

Mr.

Worthington emphasized Pearce’s military service, stating that he had served in the army for 22 years and was still actively serving as a reservist in the Territorial Army.

The defence attorney highlighted Pearce’s acknowledgment of the wrongdoing, noting that he recognized the severity of his actions.

Furthermore, Pearce had taken steps to seek help independently by referring himself to the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, an organization dedicated to preventing child abuse, and had paid for this assistance himself.

Following the guilty plea, the magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report to be prepared to assess Pearce’s circumstances and potential sentencing options.

The case was adjourned until July 29, allowing Pearce to meet with the Probation Service for further evaluation.

Magistrate Jonathan Chappell warned Pearce that the court retained the authority to escalate the case to the Crown Court if the magistrates deemed that their sentencing powers were insufficient for the gravity of the offences.

He explained that a judge in the Crown Court could impose a harsher sentence if necessary.

Until the sentencing, Pearce was released on conditional bail.

He was instructed not to have any unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18 and to avoid places where minors might be present in private settings.

The case continues to be of concern given the serious nature of the charges and the potential for a more severe sentence upon sentencing.
