ANTHONY JORDAN FROM MOTHERWELL SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Motherwell and the surrounding areas, Anthony Jordan, aged 44, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 13 years after being found guilty of multiple heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a decade from 2003 to 2014, included the rape of his stepdaughter, an attempted assault on another girl, and the sexual abuse of a third victim. The conviction was secured following a detailed trial at the High Court in Glasgow last month, where the evidence presented painted a grim picture of Jordan’s predatory behavior.

One of the most harrowing aspects of the case was the testimony of the first victim, who revealed that she was just 12 years old when Jordan first assaulted her inside her family home while her mother, Sandra Baird, was sleeping in the next room. The girl recounted her feelings of fear and helplessness, describing how she confided in her mother about the abuse. However, her mother allegedly dismissed her concerns, instructing her to tell social services that her accusations were false. This response left the young girl feeling betrayed and sickened, especially knowing that her mother continued to stand by Jordan despite her disclosures.

Another victim, now 17, recounted her own terrifying experience with Jordan, who attempted to rape her but was thwarted when she fought back, kicking and screaming. She also confided in her mother about her fears, particularly about going out to bingo, but did not reveal the full extent of Jordan’s abuse until she was finally able to tell her mother the truth. Once she did, authorities were contacted, leading to Jordan’s arrest and subsequent trial.

The third victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, described being subjected to a disturbing “squeezing game” with Jordan. Her abuse extended to inappropriate touching during visits to a swimming pool, where Jordan inappropriately touched her as they descended a flume together and peered over the cubicle door while she was changing. These acts of abuse occurred at various locations, including private residences in North Lanarkshire and a swimming pool in Motherwell.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Lord Matthews condemned Jordan’s actions, describing the crimes as an “appalling catalogue of abuse of young girls.” He highlighted the particularly repulsive nature of the case, noting that Jordan had raped a girl aged between 13 and 17 on nearly a daily basis. Jordan’s conduct was met with disgust from the court, and he was visibly supportive of his family, including Sandra Baird, as he was led away to serve his sentence. In addition to his time behind bars, Jordan was ordered to register as a sex offender, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the community’s need for ongoing protection.

One of the victims expressed her relief at the sentence, stating, “I’m glad he is off the streets and I’m glad he is finally being punished. I feel I finally have some justice.” Conversely, she also voiced her anger and disappointment towards her mother, who she accused of covering for Jordan for years. She said, “To know she’s still standing by him makes me sick,” emphasizing the deep emotional scars left by the abuse and the perceived betrayal by her own family. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Motherwell, raising awareness about the importance of listening to and believing victims of abuse, and the need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from predators like Anthony Jordan.
