ALAN BROUGHTON FROM DONCASTER SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE AND VIOLENCE IN DONCASTER AND WOODLANDS
In a case that has shocked the community of Doncaster, Alan Broughton, aged 35, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 16 years for heinous crimes involving a young girl and subsequent violent assault on a man who attempted to report his offenses. Broughton, residing on Highfield Crescent, Thorne, Doncaster, was convicted of multiple serious charges, including two counts of raping a girl under the age of 13, conspiracy to commit wounding, and actual wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The criminal acts took place over a period spanning from November 2012 to March 2014, at a property located within Doncaster. The details of these offenses emerged during a court trial, where evidence revealed the extent of Broughton’s depravity. The young victim, whose courage in coming forward was commended by authorities, endured a traumatic ordeal that has left a lasting impact.
Following the revelation of his crimes, Broughton did not stop at the abuse. On the evening of April 6, 2014, he, along with two accomplices, launched a brutal attack on a man who had reported the crimes to the police. This assault occurred on Great North Road in the Woodlands area of Doncaster. The victim suffered severe injuries, including a fractured cheekbone and a broken nose, as well as cuts and bruises, in what authorities described as a vicious attempt to intimidate and silence the whistleblower.
Detective Constable Nichole Russell, who led the investigation, expressed her condemnation of Broughton’s actions. She stated, “Broughton committed a horrendous and despicable crime against an innocent and vulnerable child, then tried to intimidate the person who reported his vile actions by assaulting him so viciously, he fractured his cheekbone and broke his nose.” She also praised the bravery of the young girl and the man who, despite facing threats and violence, provided crucial evidence that led to Broughton’s conviction.
Prior to his sentencing, Broughton appeared at Sheffield Crown Court, where he was found guilty of all charges. The court also convicted a 29-year-old woman who was involved in conspiracy to commit wounding, with both defendants scheduled for sentencing on February 26. The woman had conspired with Broughton before the attack, accepting his lies and allowing the assault on the reporting man to occur.
DC Russell emphasized the importance of victims coming forward, saying, “I want to praise the young girl, who has displayed so much courage and bravery throughout the investigation, and also the man who despite Broughton’s interference, proceeded to give crucial evidence in court. Broughton has not spared a single thought for those who have suffered, making them endure the harrowing ordeal of a trial and having to relive their experiences.”
The community and law enforcement officials alike hope that the lengthy sentence will serve as a warning to others and bring some measure of justice to those affected by Broughton’s actions. Authorities continue to encourage victims of sexual offenses and violence to report such crimes, ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their depraved conduct.
