July 2011 Rotherham Council worker jailed for string of child sexual offences A FORMER Rotherham Council worker has been locked up for serious sex offences. Gareth Craven (30), an ex-lighting technician at Rotherham Civic Theatre, was jailed for four years at Sheffield Crown Court this week for six offences. Craven was convicted after a trial of two charges of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 16 and four charges of sexual activity with a child under 16 which were committed in 2009. Craven, of Tranmoor Lane, Armthorpe, Doncaster, was also sentenced to a two-year licence period. He was banned from working with children, placed under a sex offender prevention order and put on the sex offender register. A Rotherham Borough Council spokesman confirmed that Craven was suspended at the time the allegations came to light and voluntarily left his job, ahead of the case reaching court.
