Ajay Jetha

Leicester Sexual Abuser

April 2016 Face of a monster revealed: ‘Dangerous’ paedophile is every parent’s worst nightmare The serial offender was yesterday given a life sentence, with an 11 year minimum term behind bars. Jetha, 32, formerly of Hamilton, was arrested following a three-day manhunt, after the child, who is under 13, was subjected to a terrifying ordeal on a footpath, off Knighton Lane East, in Leicester, on October 13. Before his arrest, smirking Jetha put pictures of himself in a variety of poses online. The Mercury has chosen to publish those pictures today so readers are in no doubt about his identity. Sentencing Jetha at Leicester Crown Court yesterday, Judge Nicholas Dean QC said: “Jetha is a highly dangerous predatory paedophile and I’m satisfied he will remain dangerous for the rest of his life.” The extent of the danger paedophile Ajay Jetha posed to children was laid out before the judge at Leicester Crown Court. Jetha’s offender manager since November 2013, David Tunnicliffe, carried out five “active risk management assessments” on the defendant, taking into account his “level of risk.” It was constantly set at high, the court was told. Adrian Langdale, prosecuting, said Jetha was being supervised under MAPPA (Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements) but the offender manager’s powers were limited. Mr Langdale added: “The resources to manage Jetha were limited. “Jetha was clearly destined, on the face of these reports, for further offending.” Judge Nicholas Dean QC said Mr Tunnicliffe’s evidence was valuable, not just for sentencing purposes, but because it “demonstrates the vital role of those individuals tasked with monitoring sex offenders.” Had Jetha still been on licence from his earlier nine year sentence, imposed in 2004, for a similar attack upon another boy, Mr Tunnicliffe would have had the power to have had him recalled to prison. But the sentence expired in 2012. If he had been the subject of a sexual offences prevention order, there would have been more monitoring and control to curtail his activities. Mr Tunnicliffe became aware of the defendant’s graffiti advertising for sex with children in parks and accessing child pornography, after which his report predicted in July last year: “He could at any time take a child off the streets.” Mr Langdale said: “That prophecy came true a matter of months later.” Mr Tunnicliffe’s report described Jetha as “massively sexually preoccupied, probably more so than any other offender I manage. “Jetha’s only goal in life is to satisfy his sexual appetite. “He cares for no-one except himself and his sexual preoccupation. “He cares not about being arrested. “Jetha has the opportunity to offend all around him. “He has a dog that could be used as child bait. “His dog could be used as an icebreaker to speak to children in parks etc. “His life is chaotic, impulsive and he does whatever he likes, whatever the consequences. “He shows no desire to change.” Jetha was also described as “like a stroppy teenager.” Judge Dean said a life sentence meant Jetha could be recalled to prison at any time if he reoffended and a sexual harm prevention order – carrying a maximum five year sentence for breaches – would ensure he was released under a “strict and clear” regime where his “risk” could be managed more effectively. Jetha’s extensive criminal record: August 2003 arrested on allegations of child abduction and rape at gunpoint – but the case was not proceeded with. 2004 jailed for nine years for kidnap, false imprisonment and sexual assault of a 12-year-old boy in London, and possessing child pornography. August 2014 given an eight week suspended jail sentence for breaching sex offender notification requirements (failing to inform the police of his address). March 2015 given a 16 week suspended jail sentence for again breach sex offender notification requirements. April 2016 Man admits Leicester park sex attack on young boy A 32-year-old man has admitted the imprisonment and serious sexual assault of a young boy in a Leicester park. The child, who was under 13, needed medical treatment following the attack by Ajay Jetha last year. Jetha changed his plea to guilty moments before his trial was due to start for serious sexual assault and photographing the attack. He also admitted possessing 85 indecent images of children and will be sentenced on Tuesday. Jetha had previously admitted some offences relating to the vicious attack on the boy, known only as Child A, in the park near Knighton Lane East. The boy was attacked in Wash Brook Nature Park in Leicester At Leicester Crown Court on Monday, Jetha changed his plea to guilty to all 10 counts including false imprisonment, five counts of sex offences against a child under 13, actual bodily harm and three of taking indecent images of a child. He also admitted nine separate charges of making indecent images of children by downloading them on to his mobile phone, and one of possessing 85 indecent pictures of children. Judge Nicholas Dean QC, who remanded him back into custody, said: “You’re intelligent enough to know you now face a very long period in prison.” Magistrates have previously ordered Jetha’s address should not be released for fear of a vigilante attack. In a statement released after Jetha’s guilty plea, Child A’s parents said: “Finally, after making our child and our family wait all this time we are pleased that he has pleaded guilty and spared our son the trauma of having to go through the horrific details of what happened to him all over again.” Det Insp Tony Yarwood, who led the investigation, praised the boy’s bravery and said it was “the most significant factor” in leading to Jetha’s arrest. “Jetha left his home address with, it appears, the sole and deliberate intention of finding a child to attack and assault for his own gratification,” he said. “The evidence gathered against him… was overwhelming, and it was the sheer weight of that evidence that I believe helped persuade him to plead guilty.”
