September 2015 Carlisle man had 1.8 million indecent images of children A paedophile found in possession of almost two million indecent images of children has been jailed for just 20 months. William Gilbank, 51, was only caught after a games console which belonging to him was taken into Carlisle’s Cash Generator store by an innocent party. Indecent images were seen by staff, who contacted police. An investigation was launched and Gilbank was arrested. Computer equipment was seized from him and Carlisle Crown Court was told today (THURS) that police found a staggering 1.8 million illegal images. Gilbank of Stonegarth, Carlisle confessed all to officers, and admitted 12 charges of making indecent still photographs and videos of children in 2012 and 2013. The court heard some of the victims seen in the photographs being sexually abused were aged as young as two. Other photos showed young children being raped. Judge Paul Batty QC told Gilbank that an immediate prison sentence was the only option for possession of an “enormous” amount of material. Gilbank’s name will be on the sex offenders’ register for life.
