WAYNE FREEMAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN WISBECH

A man named Wayne Freeman has been sentenced to a decade in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing two young girls over a span of nearly 17 years in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. The lengthy period of abuse, which began in August 2006 and continued until April 2023, has left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.

Wayne Freeman, aged 43 and residing at Somers Court in Wisbech, was brought before Peterborough Crown Court where he received a 10-year prison sentence. In addition to his custodial term, Freeman will be subject to an indefinite restraining order designed to prevent any contact with the victims and to protect them from further harm. The court also ordered that Freeman serve an additional year on licence following his release, ensuring continued supervision and safeguarding measures.

Freeman faced multiple charges, including five counts of assaulting a girl under the age of 13 by touching, two counts of sexual assault involving penetration of a girl under 13, and two counts of sexual assault on a female. The allegations came to light when one of the victims courageously reported the abuse to the police, prompting an investigation that uncovered the extent of Freeman’s misconduct.

Detective Constable Annette Renwick commented on the case, describing the abuse as occurring over an “incredibly long period of time.” She expressed her understanding of the profound damage caused, stating, “The devastation this abuse has caused them and the impact on their wider families is immense. It is only right a lengthy jail sentence was handed down.”

She also paid tribute to the victims, acknowledging their bravery in coming forward and their resilience throughout the legal process. “I would like to pay tribute to the victims who showed bravery in reporting the abuse and then having the courage to give evidence in court. They have showed dignity and resilience throughout the process, for which I commend them,” she said.

Detective Renwick emphasized the importance of pursuing justice for victims of child sexual abuse, regardless of whether the abuse is recent or has occurred in the past. “Child sexual abuse can cause serious mental health issues in victims, and we will relentlessly pursue offenders and bring them to justice, irrespective of whether the abuse is recent or historical,” she added.
