May 2006 Paedophile sent to jail A paedophile oil worker who repeatedly molested three young girls has been jailed for two years. Wisbech man David Vearer (67) touched his victims, aged between eight and 12, “whenever he had the chance”. He carried out the attacks over a period of four years. Snaresbrook Crown Court heard how the victims came forward last year after one of them mentioned the abuse dating back to 2000. Anna Hamilton-Shield, prosecuting, said the first 11-year-old girl was groped after Vearer said she “looked sexy”. His second victim was around the same age and the third victim was subjected to three separate attacks from the age of eight. Simon Smith, defending Vearer, said: “This is a tragic case. “He has not denied responsibility for his touching of the girls and he feels he must be punished.” Vearer flew back from Cyprus to hand himself into the police after the allegations were made. Sentencing him, Judge Simon Wilkinson said: “These assaults constitute a grave breach of trust. “This sort of conduct can have devastating consequences on the victims. “Inevitably, these offences are so serious that only an immediate custodial sentence can be justified.” Vearer, of Cocketts Drive, admitted five counts of indecent assault and one of indecency with a child. He will register as a sex offender indefinitely and is banned from working with children.
