WAYNE AULT FROM DUDLEY SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING YOUNG GIRLS
In July 2014, Wayne Ault, a man residing on Green Park Road in Kates Hill, Dudley, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving young girls. The case drew significant attention due to the predatory nature of Ault's actions and the bravery shown by his victims in coming forward.Wayne Ault faced a total of six charges, including three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 13 and three additional charges related to causing a young girl to watch images of sexual activity. Despite his initial denial of these allegations, a jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court found him guilty of all six charges after a rigorous three-day trial. The court proceedings revealed the extent of Ault’s misconduct and the impact on his victims.
At the sentencing hearing, Detective Constable Catherin Blagin expressed her support for the victims, stating, “Ault was caught when the girls told each other what had happened to them. They then plucked up the courage to tell an adult, and I would like to commend these young girls for the bravery they showed in speaking up. I hope this strength of character helps them to move forward and gives other young victims the confidence to report such offences to us, knowing they will be taken seriously by the police.”
Blagin further emphasized that Ault was a predatory offender who exploited his position of trust to commit these heinous acts. She added, “Dudley is a safer place with him in prison, and on his release, he will be on the sex offenders register for life.”
Earlier in June 2014, the court had heard that Ault’s actions included grooming behaviors that ultimately led to sexual assaults on a vulnerable young girl. The court also learned that Ault had shown disturbing pornographic films to another young schoolgirl, further illustrating his predatory tendencies. Judge Robin Onions, presiding over the case, described Ault’s behavior as an “aberration” and noted that there was no prior record indicating a propensity for such offences.
Despite denying the charges, Ault was found guilty after a jury deliberated for just over two hours. The evidence presented showed that Ault, aged 36, had access to pornography, which he occasionally viewed. The court heard that after consuming alcohol, he coerced one of his victims into watching these films. Ault claimed that the girl had only seen the cover of a pornographic film, but the jury was able to hear her detailed description of the content, which proved otherwise.
Furthermore, Ault had taken the opportunity to carry out sexual assaults on another young girl. The judge highlighted that Ault maintained his innocence despite the overwhelming evidence against him. As part of his sentence, Ault was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, barred from working with children, and prohibited from having unsupervised contact with anyone under 16. The judge also described the girl he assaulted as particularly vulnerable, underscoring the severity of his crimes.
Throughout the trial, Ault’s defense argued that the girl had fabricated the allegations, but the court dismissed these claims, especially given the absence of any relevant prior convictions for Ault. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who abuse positions of trust and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.
