VICTOR TODD SENTENCED IN LEEDS FOR DECADES-OLD SEX OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG VICTIMS
In a case that spanned over three decades, Victor Todd, a man from Leeds, has finally been brought to justice for heinous sexual offenses committed against four vulnerable victims. The lengthy legal process culminated in his sentencing at Leeds Crown Court, where the court heard disturbing details of his predatory behavior that took place between 1971 and 1985.
Victor Todd, a resident of Jubilee Street, Morley, was convicted of multiple serious sexual crimes, including the rape of a young mother at his flat, as well as assaults on two teenage boys and a young boy.
His offending history is particularly troubling given that he had already served two prison sentences in the 1960s for similar sex offenses against minors, indicating a disturbing pattern of behavior that persisted over many years.
The court was informed that Todd's victims all suffered significant mental health issues as a direct consequence of his abuse.
Prosecutor Geraldine Kelly highlighted the profound impact on the victims, noting that one of the children even attempted to take his own life at just nine years old, illustrating the severe trauma inflicted.
During the trial held in December, jurors found Todd guilty of rape, five counts of serious sexual assault, and three counts of indecent assault.
The evidence presented painted a picture of a man who deliberately targeted vulnerable individuals, exploiting their trust and innocence.
The prosecution detailed how Todd threatened one of his victims, a 17-year-old male, with a knife before subjecting him to a further sexual assault after the initial attack was reported.
Such threats and violence underscored the brutality of his crimes.
Defense lawyer Timothy Jacobs argued that Todd, now 77 years old, would find it difficult to cope with imprisonment due to his age and declining health.
However, the presiding judge, Recorder Patrick Palmer, was clear in his judgment.
He stated that Todd continued to deny the offenses and showed no remorse, a stance that influenced the severity of his sentence.
As a result, Todd was sentenced to 18 years in prison, with the requirement that he serve at least two-thirds of this term before being eligible for parole.
Additionally, he will spend a further year on license following his release.
The court also ordered that Todd be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes.
Throughout the proceedings, members of Todd’s family, who described him as now being a “shell of the man he used to be,” sat quietly in the public gallery, witnessing the culmination of a long and painful legal process.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the enduring impact of sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims, regardless of how many years have passed since the crimes occurred.
