TOKA AKPOJARO SENT TO PRISON FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN CAMEBERWELL AND FARNBOROUGH
In a serious case of sexual misconduct, Toka Akpojaro, a Nigerian national, was sentenced to prison for the indecent assault of a teenage girl in Farnborough. The incident took place while the 14-year-old girl was delivering newspapers in the village, an activity she regularly performed as part of her daily routine.According to reports, Akpojaro approached the young girl in an alleyway, where he took hold of her hand and forcibly kissed her. The assault was particularly disturbing as he used his tongue to kiss her without her consent, an act that left her distressed and frightened. The girl, who was just 14 years old, was clearly overwhelmed by the encounter, which occurred during her paper route in Farnborough.
Akpojaro, aged 38, appeared before Croydon Crown Court on May 10 to face charges related to the assault. During the proceedings, he denied the allegations, claiming that his actions were innocent and that he approached the girl solely to ask for directions. He stated that he was in the area of Farnborough to find a doctor’s surgery, as he had an appointment linked to his application for a commercial pilot’s license. His explanation was met with skepticism by the court, given the nature of the charges.
The court was also informed that Akpojaro had fled the United Kingdom shortly after the incident, which occurred on September 29, 2004. He returned to Nigeria, his country of origin, and was not arrested until he came back to Britain recently. His return prompted his re-arrest and subsequent court appearance.
Judge Stephen Waller sentenced Akpojaro to eight months in prison for the assault. The judge emphasized the gravity of the offense, stating, “You forced your attentions on the girl. You were old enough to be her father.” The sentence was to be served in addition to a four-month sentence Akpojaro was already serving for jumping bail in a separate matter. Furthermore, the court ordered that his name be added to the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years, reflecting the serious nature of his crime and the potential risk to the community.
