CECIL MCCREADY FROM FARNBOROUGH SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE BY MUSIC TEACHER
In a case that has shocked the community of Farnborough, Cecil McCready, a 56-year-old former Irish Guard, was sentenced to a year in prison at Guildford Crown Court on Friday, March 3, 2017, after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl. The incident involved McCready, who was serving as a music teacher, exploiting the trust placed in him by the child's family and the wider society.McCready, residing on Thames Close in Farnborough, had previously admitted to three counts of sexual assault involving a child by a person in a position of trust. His admission of guilt paved the way for the sentencing, which also included strict measures aimed at preventing any future harm.
During the sentencing hearing, the court imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) that will remain in effect for ten years, a significant step to safeguard other potential victims. Additionally, McCready was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The court also issued a lifelong ban preventing him from working with children in any capacity, reflecting the severity of his misconduct.
Judge Robert Fraser delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the breach of trust involved in the case. He stated, “You were trusted not only by the parents but by society as a whole. You abused that trust and in making that increasing contact with her you took advantage of her vulnerability.”
The judge further highlighted the importance of protecting young girls from harmful influences, underscoring the role of teachers and other authority figures in fostering a safe environment for children. “Young girls have to be free from harmful influences while they mature. It’s vital young people can rely on their teachers,” he remarked, condemning McCready’s actions and reinforcing the need for vigilance in safeguarding children.
