TIMOTHY EDWARDS FROM OLDHAM JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN BOLD CRIME CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Oldham, Timothy Edwards, a 56-year-old man, has been sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of grooming and sexually abusing a young girl. The incident, which took place over a period of time, involved Edwards actively pursuing a 13-year-old girl he met through social media, specifically Facebook, and engaging in inappropriate and illegal activities.According to police reports, Edwards began communicating with the girl in February 2013. During their online exchanges, he asked her to send explicit pictures and videos of herself. The young girl, who was only 13 at the time, refused to comply with these requests, but Edwards persisted in his efforts to manipulate her. His relentless pursuit culminated in him persuading her to meet him in person. In early December 2013, Edwards traveled to her residence in Oldham and engaged in sexual activity with her, an act that has now been classified as statutory abuse.
Following his arrest in January 2014, authorities conducted a thorough search of Edwards' home in Walk Mill, Dobcross. During the raid, police seized his computers and discovered a disturbing collection of child abuse images. The forensic examination revealed that Edwards possessed 15 indecent images of children, which further implicated him in the commission of these heinous acts.
Edwards faced multiple charges in court, including four counts of sexual activity with a child, five counts of making and possessing indecent photographs, and one count of attempting to incite sexual activity with a minor. The trial, held at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, resulted in a guilty verdict on all counts. The court found that Edwards had actively sought out and exploited his young victim, driven by her age and vulnerability.
On January 29, the judge sentenced Edwards to a term of six years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm. This case underscores the dangers posed by online predators and highlights the importance of vigilance and safeguarding measures to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
