THOMAS NAUGHTON FROM YEOVIL FACES JAIL FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a serious legal development, Thomas John Naughton, aged 28, a resident of Plover Court in Yeovil, is now facing potential imprisonment after he admitted to engaging in sexual activities with a minor. The charges stem from incidents that occurred in 2016, involving a 13-year-old girl, and Naughton pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with her.
Specifically, Naughton admitted to acts that involved sexual penetration, during which he did not reasonably believe that the girl was over the age of 16.
This admission came during a pre-trial hearing at Taunton Crown Court, where he was originally scheduled to stand trial.
However, the trial was effectively halted when Naughton chose to admit to the offences, thereby avoiding a court proceeding.
The court proceedings revealed that the offences took place several years ago, but the legal process has only recently reached this stage.
Naughton’s guilty plea means that he will return to Taunton Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, April 3.
It is anticipated that the court will impose a custodial sentence, reflecting the gravity of the crimes committed.
Until the sentencing hearing, Naughton has been released on bail, a standard procedure in such cases.
The outcome of the sentencing will determine whether he faces imprisonment or other legal consequences for his actions.
The case has garnered attention within the local community of Yeovil, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address and prosecute crimes involving minors.
