Yeovil Pensioner Sentenced for Year-Long Campaign of Harassment and Threats

YEOVIL PENSIONER SENTENCED FOR YEAR-LONG CAMPAIGN OF HARASSMENT AND THREATS

A 77-year-old pensioner from Yeovil, Geoffrey Lewis Jones, has been convicted and sentenced after a series of harassment and abusive actions.

Jones targeted NHS nurse Andrew Stone by sending numerous threatening and vile letters over a year, attempting to get him sacked with messages such as he would 'teach him a lesson.' These letters contained offensive language and threats and also included a challenge to a duel.

Jones also directed similar abusive correspondence towards his sister, Ursula Neal, when she told him to cease contact.

The court proceedings revealed that Jones's harassment included a confrontation involving a lock knife, which was confiscated when he appeared at Yeovil Magistrates' Court.

The police eventually traced the letters to Jones through DNA evidence during a search at his home, where they found his typewriter and envelopes used for the threatening correspondence.

Between October 23, 2018, and December 20, 2018, Jones continued to pursue harassment against his sister and the nurse, which left the victims fearful for their safety.

The court acknowledged Jones's mental health issues but still sentenced him to a 12-month community order, a fine, and a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting his victims directly or indirectly for three years.
