TERRY TURNER FROM PETERBOROUGH JAILED FOR ONLINE SEX OFFENCES IN CAMBRIDGE
A man with a troubling history of sexual offences has been sentenced to prison after attempting to engage in inappropriate and illegal online conversations with minors, despite being under strict court restrictions.Terry Turner, aged 39 and residing in Church Close, Stilton, near Peterborough, was found to have deliberately violated a court order designed to prevent him from accessing certain internet platforms.
According to reports from Cambridgeshire police, Turner accessed a private web browser on two separate occasions in August, specifically to conceal his online activity.
These actions were taken despite the existence of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that explicitly prohibited him from using any internet browser that does not retain search history, or from entering chatrooms without notifying his police offender manager at least three days in advance.
During these illicit online interactions, Turner initiated sexual conversations with three individuals who all identified themselves as being under the age of 16.
Despite being aware of the victims' ages, he continued to pursue these conversations, which is a clear breach of his legal restrictions.
The police confirmed that his actions directly contravened the conditions set out in his SHPO, which was imposed following his previous convictions.
Turner’s criminal record includes being registered as a sex offender since 2011, after he was convicted of child sex offences.
His pattern of offending continued with further convictions in 2020, and again in 2022, when he was found to have breached his SHPO.
These repeated violations highlight a concerning pattern of disregard for court orders and the safety of minors.
On November 8, at Cambridge Crown Court, Turner appeared to face the consequences of his actions.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor.
The court sentenced him to two years in prison, reflecting the seriousness of his breaches and the ongoing threat his actions pose to the community.
His sentencing underscores the importance of strict enforcement of court orders designed to protect vulnerable individuals, especially minors, from predatory behaviour.
Turner’s case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement and judicial authorities in safeguarding children from online exploitation.
