January 2019 ‘High risk’ paedophile befriended woman and four children but hid his sordid past A “high risk” paedophile who struck up a friendship with a neighbour and her daughters despite being banned from interacting with young girls has been handed a prison sentence. Terence Green breached a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for a third time when he befriended two women in Middlesbrough, one of whom had four children. The “isolated” 44-year-old was in regular contact with the family between March, 2018 and January this year, but kept his conviction for possessing indecent images a secret. Green was given a suspended prison sentence at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for the breach. Ansab Shan, prosecuting, said: “The defendant made friends with a lady and was living next door to her cousin and her four children. “The youngest was six-years-old at the time. “He visited her on a number of occasions while the children were present and on January 5 was speaking to two of the children.” The court heard that as Green is a registered sex offender, he is not allowed to be in contact with any girl under the age of 16. He was made subject to a SHPO in November 2016 and breached it twice before, once for deleting his internet browsing history. But the truth was finally revealed when one of the women received a phone call from Green’s probation officer. The news was such a shock that the woman had a “panic attack” and left her feeling “disgusted”. In a statement, the woman said: “At no stage did he make me aware of his previous convictions.” A probation report said Green was considered “high risk” but was “too ashamed and embarrassed to disclose his convictions” to the family. Green, of Avondale Close, Teesville, was given a 26 week prison sentence, suspended for two years. He was also ordered to undertake 30 rehabilitation days and must pay £200 costs.
