LEEDS GROOMING GANG SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE
On 2 June, a court in Leeds sentenced 10 men for their roles in sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl in the Beeston area. The offenders, among them Tariq Islam, Nasir Sultan, Amir Zaman, and Zafar Iqbal, systematically groomed and exploited the girl, violating her through extended acts of sexual abuse.
According to court reports, the victims were lured by offers of cigarettes and alcohol and were contacted via Facebook with demands for sex.
The perpetrators then picked up the girl in public and forced her into cars, some of which were driven by the accused as they assaulted her.
The judge stated: "(the victim) was systematically abused, in some cases by men who knew each other and exchanged their experiences which no doubt led to further abuse." The court observed that none of the accused showed remorse, only concern about being caught.
The offenders were jailed for a combined total of 51 years.
This case is part of a pattern where many perpetrators, predominantly of Asian Muslim or Pakistani origin, targeted young white, Sikh, and Hindu girls, although most victims came from intact families.
These crimes have raised significant concern within communities, with some community leaders speaking out against the abuses and calling for action to prevent further harm.
