LEEDS MAN STEVEN WOODBINE SEXUALLY ASSAULTS 16-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT HUDDERSFIELD PARTY
In November 2014, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Steven Woodbine, a 39-year-old man from Leeds, who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl during a party in Huddersfield. The event took place in a setting where the victim, heavily intoxicated, was left vulnerable and unprotected.
According to court reports, the teenage girl had consumed a significant amount of vodka, which rendered her unable to fully control her actions.
As her intoxication increased, she was taken to a bedroom at the party venue, where she was left to sleep fully clothed and face down on the bed.
Her mother, who was also present, later joined her and both women fell asleep in the same room.
It was during the early hours of the morning that the incident was discovered.
Andrew Dallas, prosecuting, explained that Steven Woodbine was found in the room when authorities arrived.
Prior to this, Woodbine had already made unwanted advances towards another woman at the party, which had been rejected.
His inappropriate behavior was interrupted when another guest entered the room and saw him pulling up his trousers.
The witness then turned on the light and made a shocking discovery: the 16-year-old girl had been moved onto the bed, her dress pulled up, and her underwear removed.
Woodbine denied any physical contact with the girl, claiming, “I’ve not done owt, prove it.” However, the victim later testified that she remembered him touching her breast under her clothes.
He admitted to kissing her “to see if she was game” and acknowledged removing her knickers, but insisted that she had muttered “no” and that he had stopped immediately afterward.
In court, Woodbine, of Cowper Street, Chapeltown, Leeds, pleaded guilty to sexual assault in February.
He was sentenced to 16 months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years, with conditions including supervision and participation in a high-level activity programme.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of 10 years and was required to pay costs amounting to £500.
Judge Rodney Jameson QC emphasized the seriousness of the offence, particularly given the vulnerability of the young girl involved.
Nonetheless, he noted that the imposed order aimed to address the underlying reasons for Woodbine’s behavior through participation in a sex offender treatment programme, which was deemed an appropriate response to the case.
