SWADLINCOTE POLICE OFFICER STEVEN WALTERS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN STAFFORDSHIRE

A police officer from the West Midlands, Steven Walters, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two women and has been sentenced to serve four years in prison. Walters, who is 48 years old, entered a guilty plea to two counts of sexual assault during a court hearing at Stafford Crown Court. The incidents in question occurred between February and April of 2015, during which Walters abused his authority and position of trust as a law enforcement officer.

In the first of these disturbing incidents, Walters approached a woman in her twenties late at night, offering her a ride home in his patrol vehicle. During this encounter, he inappropriately placed his hand on her thigh, an act that left her feeling deeply uncomfortable and 'creeped out.' The victim recounted feeling uneasy about the interaction, which was clearly an abuse of his role and trust.

The second assault took place at the victim’s residence, with her children present at the time. According to court reports, Walters touched her under her skirt, attempted to kiss her, and even asked her to take him to a bedroom. These actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for boundaries and the safety of the victim and her children.

The court heard that Walters showed no remorse for his actions, and Judge Paul Glenn emphasized the severity of the misconduct. The judge pointed out that Walters had exploited his position of authority, which is meant to serve and protect the public, but instead brought disgrace upon himself and the police force. The case has been described by the Chief Constable as 'one of the worst violations of policing integrity' they have encountered.

Both victims displayed remarkable bravery in coming forward and reporting these crimes, and their courage was acknowledged and praised during the proceedings. The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of Walters’ misconduct and the importance of maintaining trust and integrity within law enforcement agencies.
