STEPHEN THOMPSON OF SUNDERLAND JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS FOR ABUSING YOUNG GIRL IN 2006
In July 2006, a man from Sunderland was sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a young girl.
Stephen Thompson, 38, targeted his young victim over a three-year period, beginning when she was just five years old.
Newcastle Crown Court heard that he committed multiple offences on “repeated occasions,” during which he would wear surgical gloves to carry out the attacks.
Thompson faced two charges of indecent assault but denied the allegations; however, a jury found him guilty.
Defence lawyer Paul Cross stated in court: “This defendant continues to deny the offences.” Judge David Hodson sentenced Thompson of Cirencester Street, Millfield, Sunderland, to seven years behind bars and extended his licence period by an additional two years.
Furthermore, Thompson was permanently banned from working with children and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
In addressing Thompson directly, Judge Hodson remarked, “On occasions, you wore surgical gloves to commit the offences, quite why is unclear to anyone.
You still do not acknowledge you were responsible for these offences, but I am sure you appreciate this court has to be loyal to the verdict of the jury which concluded you were responsible for these offences.” The court also noted that medical evidence supported the young girl’s claims of abuse.
