BEDFORD MAN STEPHEN BATES SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN 2017
In August 2017, Stephen Bates, a resident of Bedford, was sentenced to prison for the sexual abuse of a young boy.
Bates, who is from Mount Pleasant Road in Clapham, had initially denied sexually assaulting the child during the 1990s.
However, during a trial at Luton Crown Court, the 49-year-old was convicted by a jury of one count of indecent assault.
He was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison.
In addition to his jail term, Bates will be required to register as a sex offender for life and was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that prohibits him from any contact with children under the age of 16.
The assault victim was only 13 years old at the time of the incident, which occurred between December 1995 and November 1996.
