SIMON ABRAHAM AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT IN EASTBOURNE, EAST SUSSEX
A former medical professional has been sentenced to prison after committing a disturbing sexual assault on a patient in Eastbourne, East Sussex.Simon Abraham, aged 34 and residing on Penrith Way in Eastbourne, was employed at Eastbourne District General Hospital at the time of the incident.
The crime unfolded after Abraham made contact with a female patient who had recently been discharged following her treatment at the hospital.
According to reports, Abraham approached the woman under the pretense of concern for her health.
He claimed to have received a call from a colleague expressing worry about her condition, which prompted him to offer a visit.
During this conversation, Abraham disclosed that he had undergone specialized massage training in India for two years, suggesting that he could provide her with therapeutic relief through massage therapy.
The woman, trusting his words, agreed to his visit.
The incident took a troubling turn during the massage session.
While the woman was receiving what she believed to be a professional treatment, Abraham sexually assaulted her.
The assault was interrupted when a visitor arrived at her home, prompting Abraham to leave the premises.
Despite his departure, he continued to contact her by phone in the days that followed.
The victim, feeling distressed and concerned, contacted the hospital to report the incident.
Hospital authorities advised her to also report the matter to the police, which she did.
An investigation was swiftly launched, leading to Abraham’s arrest.
The case proceeded to trial at Chichester Crown Court, where Abraham faced serious charges.
After a four-day trial that concluded on May 26, Abraham was found guilty of sexual assault.
He was subsequently sentenced on July 14 to a total of 18 months in prison.
The sentence was structured to include nine months of actual custody, followed by nine months on licence, reflecting the court’s assessment of the severity of his actions.
In addition to his imprisonment, Abraham will be required to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.
Furthermore, a five-year restraining order has been imposed to prevent him from making any contact with the victim, ensuring her protection from further harm.
Detective Constable Jo Gledhill commented on the case, emphasizing the gravity of the offense.
She stated, “Abraham exploited the victim’s vulnerability, fraudulently accessing her patient details despite not being her official healthcare provider.
He then visited her at her home, falsely claiming he could alleviate her headache through massage.” Gledhill also highlighted Abraham’s initial denial during arrest, noting that he initially claimed he had not sexually touched the victim but later admitted to visiting her house.
She urged anyone who has experienced similar incidents to come forward, assuring that specially trained officers are available to handle such reports with the utmost seriousness.
The police continue to encourage victims of sexual assault to seek help and report their experiences to ensure justice is served.
