MATTHEW BARCA SENTENCED IN EAST SUSSEX FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS AND WOMEN
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Peacehaven and the wider East Sussex area, Matthew Barca, a 31-year-old delivery driver, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous sexual crimes involving young girls and women. It all began in December 2021 when local police received a distressing report concerning a girl under the age of five who had been subjected to multiple sexual assaults.
Authorities responded swiftly, visiting the young girl and her family to collect evidence and provide necessary specialist support to help them cope with the trauma.
The investigation quickly led to the arrest of Matthew Barca on the same day, highlighting the urgency and seriousness of the case.
As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered a second victim—a woman in her twenties—who came forward to reveal that Barca had raped and sexually assaulted her during her childhood, specifically between the years 2005 and 2008.
At that time, Barca was between 13 and 15 years old, indicating that he was a juvenile when the earlier offenses occurred.
This revelation added a new dimension to the case, exposing a pattern of predatory behavior spanning several years.
Following the evidence gathered, Barca faced multiple charges, including eight counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of rape of a child under 13, two counts of assault by penetration of a child, and two counts of inciting or causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
Additionally, he was charged with possession of indecent images of children, further underscoring the severity of his crimes.
On August 4, at Lewes Crown Court, Barca pleaded guilty to all the charges brought against him, avoiding a lengthy trial and confirming his guilt in the eyes of the law.
The court's judgment was delivered on January 3, when Barca was sentenced to a total of nine years and eight months in prison.
The court also imposed an extended license period of four years and four months, during which he will be closely monitored due to the court’s determination that he poses a significant danger to the public.
Furthermore, Barca was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which significantly restricts his access to children and digital devices, aiming to prevent any further offenses.
He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and issued restraining orders to protect his victims from any contact or harassment.
This comprehensive legal response reflects the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing efforts to safeguard the community from potential future harm.
