KEVIN WYETH AND HIS SHOCKING PREDATORY BEHAVIOR IN EAST SUSSEX
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community in East Sussex, Kevin Wyeth, aged 37, has been convicted of serious sexual offenses involving children.Wyeth, who was residing in a hotel at the time following his release from prison, was found to be a persistent and dangerous sexual predator.
His criminal history includes a previous sentence for sending sexual communications to four minors, highlighting a troubling pattern of behavior.
The incident that led to his recent conviction occurred in March when police officers conducted an unannounced visit to his hotel accommodation.
During the search, Wyeth made an attempt to conceal his phone by hiding it under a loaf of bread placed next to his bed.
Despite his efforts to evade detection, the officers discovered the device, which contained hundreds of indecent images of children.
The police investigation revealed that Wyeth had also engaged in text exchanges with minors believed to be under the age of 15, further underscoring the severity of his offending.
Wyeth, who has no fixed address, was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that had been in place since his earlier child sex offences dating back to 2006.
This order was designed to restrict his activities and prevent further harm, but it was breached multiple times.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with three counts of breaching the SHPO, as well as making indecent images of children.
Additionally, he faced a charge for failing to provide police with the PIN code for his phone, obstructing the investigation.
Following a court hearing at Lewes Crown Court, Wyeth pleaded guilty to all charges.
During the sentencing on October 12, Recorder Hardy described him as a “persistent, repeat, recidivist offender,” emphasizing the ongoing danger he posed to children and the community.
As a result, Wyeth was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will continue to restrict his activities, and he was ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.
Sussex Police Constable Louise Blacker commented on the case, stating, “Kevin Wyeth is a committed offender with an extensive criminal history, that shows he is a consistent danger to children.
His persistent offending was rightly recognised at court and, alongside this custodial sentence, he will be subject to even more stringent measures to limit the harm he can cause to the public.” Authorities believe that Wyeth may have other victims and are urging anyone who has had contact with him to come forward.
They are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who may have been targeted or affected by his actions.
Police have asked the public to contact Sussex Police either online or by calling 101, quoting serial 428 of 27/10, to assist in ongoing investigations and ensure that any additional victims are identified and protected.
