October 2011 Paedophile at kids bash is set free A PAEDOPHILE nailed by The Sun at a kids’ party walked free yesterday. Shaun Bloomfield had been caught leering at unsuspecting children at a 16th birthday bash despite a life ban from being near kids. He could have got five years’ jail, but instead Judge Jonathan Haworth sentenced him to just six months. And because Bloomfield, 45, had spent more than half that time on remand in jail, he was freed to spend the remaining months on licence. It was Bloomfield’s FOURTH breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, imposed following his conviction for having sex with a girl of 12. Child protection expert Mark Williams-Thomas blasted the judge’s decision as too soft. He called Bloomfield a “significant risk”, adding: “The only option should have been a lengthy sentence.” Bloomfield, of Corby, Northants, was arrested last July after we alerted cops to Facebook snaps of him at the party. He pleaded guilty to breaking the order at Cambridge Crown Court. Judge Haworth ruled attending the party was not a “blatant” breach.
