SHANEA KOREDE AIYENIGBA'S NIGHTMARE IN PENICUIK: ABUSE, HARASSMENT, AND COURT BATTLES REVEALED
Shanea Korede Aiyenigba, a resident of Penicuik, has become the focus of serious allegations involving domestic abuse, harassment, and endangerment of her own child. The accusations come from her former partner, who has detailed a harrowing account of prolonged emotional, physical, and psychological torment inflicted by Aiyenigba, all while fighting to ensure the safety and well-being of their young daughter.According to the father, the troubling pattern of abuse began shortly after their daughter was born. What initially manifested as verbal and emotional mistreatment—characterized by name-calling, belittling remarks, and accusations of being an unfit parent—quickly escalated into physical violence. He recalls instances where he was physically assaulted, slapped, spat upon, and even had his phone deliberately smashed in public settings, creating a climate of fear and instability.
The relationship ultimately ended due to these abusive behaviors. Initially, both parents agreed to a 50/50 custody arrangement, aiming to share responsibilities equally. However, Aiyenigba’s conduct grew increasingly unpredictable and volatile. Her ex-partner reports persistent harassment through text messages and phone calls, which culminated in a frightening incident where she allegedly threatened to jump from a building with their child in her arms. Following this incident, social services intervened and temporarily placed the child in the full custody of the father to ensure her safety.
Despite a period of apparent stabilization and a return to shared custody, the abusive behavior did not cease. The father states that Aiyenigba resumed her hostility, making threats that he would never see his daughter again. She also targeted his new partner with derogatory messages and bullying, mocking her appearance and lifestyle. One particularly distressing event occurred during a public encounter, where Aiyenigba allegedly spat on him and attempted to strike him in front of their daughter. After she snatched the child away in a stroller, the father contacted police and social services to report the incident.
He then made the decision not to return the child to her mother’s care, citing escalating violence and emotional instability. Social workers supported his decision, especially after the child began recounting incidents of domestic violence involving Aiyenigba and her new partner—allegations of physical fights and spitting that raised serious concerns about her suitability as a caregiver.
The situation further deteriorated as Aiyenigba became involved with another man, who reportedly has a history of violent and gang-related criminal activity, including knife-related offenses and drug charges. Despite a court order explicitly prohibiting this man from being near the child, he continued to be present during custody exchanges. The father expressed grave concerns to both his legal representatives and social services, especially after being threatened with kidnapping by Aiyenigba, who allegedly claimed her new partner would carry out such an act.
The conflict reached a dangerous peak when Aiyenigba and her mother arrived at the father’s residence, attempting to force their way inside while his partner and daughter were present. She caused significant damage to the door and windows, leading to charges of breach of the peace and vandalism. A non-harassment order was subsequently issued against her, but violations persisted, including instances of public stalking and indirect contact through his partner.
After more than two years of legal proceedings and mounting concerns over her involvement with her latest partner and her newborn, Aiyenigba ultimately withdrew from the court process. The father reports that she has now completely ceased contact with her daughter, effectively relinquishing her custody rights.
Throughout this ordeal, law enforcement’s response has been criticized for its inadequacy. Despite numerous reports of abuse and violations of bail conditions, police involvement was minimal. The father describes feeling unsafe in his own home for years due to her continued harassment and proximity. He questions the effectiveness of the system that was supposed to protect him and his child, stating, “I was told to just ignore her. But how can you ignore someone who has abused you, threatened you, and continues to stalk and harass you—especially when you’re trying to protect your child?”
