March 2012 Paedophile jailed for sex with 13-year-old A MAN who had sex with a 13-year-old girl on a railway line after they had both been drinking at a party has been jailed for four and a half years. Sean O’Dowd, 30, had denied three charges of having sexual activity with a child, but was found guilty by a jury in January. Sentencing him at Gloucester Crown Court, Judge Jamie Tabor told him he was a sad drunk who had lost his moral compass. O’Dowd, of Bath Road, Stonehouse, had only just met the girl at the party when he had sex with her, the court heard. He had come out of three weeks’ alcohol rehab and went straight to a party and drank again. The earlier hearing was told he took the girl for a walk, laid his coat down on the ground and had intercourse with her. About 18 months later he had more sexual activity with her when she was 14. Drugs The alleged offences were reported to police in July 2010. “He has had a serious problem with drink and drugs – and dishonesty,” said the judge. He made O’Dowd the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order indefinitely, and said he would also have to sign the sex offender’s register. Passing sentence, Judge Tabor said O’Dowd had had a very rocky time over the past 10 years but his attraction to Class A drugs and his desire for alcohol had affected his entire life. “You had been three weeks in rehab and the first thing you do when you get out is go to a party and take alcohol,” he said. “You seduced her and then two years later, you mucked about with her again.” He handed down a sentence of three and a half years for the first offence and another year consecutively for the other two offences.
