ROY ROGERS SENTENCED IN LIVERPOOL FOR PREDATORY SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING VULNERABLE SCHOOLGIRL
A pensioner with predatory intentions engaged in vile sexual misconduct involving a vulnerable schoolgirl.Roy Rogers's inappropriate behavior was uncovered after one of his victims, a girl with learning difficulties, confided in her teacher that he had taken nude photographs of her.
Prosecutor Jonathan Rogers stated, "She was concerned and upset and she also disclosed text messages between her and Rogers." During the trial at Liverpool Crown Court, Roy Rogers, 71, of Croyde Road, Speke, revealed that the girl begged him to return the indecent images he had taken, saying, "Mr Rogers told Liverpool Crown Court the girl begged Roy Rogers to return the indecent images he had taken of her in a text exchange." Rogers refused, claiming, "they are special to me" and adding, "she had the best t**s in all of Liverpool." He also claimed to have told the girl that he was "her boyfriend" and professed his love for her.
The victim described how Rogers took a photograph of her while she was naked and while she was wearing a bikini.
When arrested, law enforcement found various inappropriate images on Rogers's mobile phone, including a picture of the girl’s breasts with his hand lifting her top to expose them.
The sickening predator also used Samsung Galaxy Wearable software to turn some of these images into watch faces for a Samsung smartwatch.
During police interviews, Rogers claimed to have banter with the girl, who he knew had learning difficulties.
In a subsequent interview, he admitted he became infatuated with her, acknowledging, "I became infatuated with her and I accepted it was a sexual infatuation." The girl’s mother provided an impact statement, sharing that her daughter had become very quiet since the offenses and that the family now struggles with trust issues.
Roy Rogers was sentenced to three years in prison.
Judge Recorder Ian Harris described him as a predator during the sentencing.
Rogers, who pleaded guilty to 12 offenses including engaging in sexual communication, making indecent images, sexual activity, taking indecent images, and possessing such images, was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
The court also imposed both a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order, both indefinite.
Defense lawyer Paul Becker commented that Rogers has no prior convictions and has health issues.
He acknowledged the seriousness of the case but noted that the physical contact was "minimal." Becker urged the judge to avoid custodial imprisonment so Rogers could participate in probation programs aimed at preventing future harm and protecting the public.
