May 2014 ‘Sadistic’ paedophile fails in appeal to get 25 year jail sentence cut A “sadistic” paedophile who was caged for 25 years for horrific sex crimes against children more than four decades ago today failed in an appeal against his sentence. Duncan Peter McGee, 76, complained that the length of his sentence meant he would probably die before ever seeing the light of day. But three top judges said the pensioner, who committed his crimes while living in south Manchester, deserved all he got. The Court of Appeal heard McGee, more recently of Mansion Drive, Liverpool, preyed on two boys and a girl. The violent and domineering pervert had sex with all three, attacking the girl more than once. But his offending against the vulnerable youngsters did not come to light until many years later. “The effects on all of them have been profound and lifelong,” said appeal judge, Mr Justice Bean. McGee was convicted of 17 sex offences, including rapes and indecent assaults, at Manchester Crown Court and jailed in January. His lawyers today argued before Mr Justice Bean, Lady Justice Macur and Mr Justice Spencer that his 25-year term was too long. Although a very long term of imprisonment was necessary, the sentence would see him locked up until he is in his late 80s, the judges were told. Even a 20-year term would mean he is in prison until he is 86, but would give him more hope of actually surviving his sentence. Giving judgment, Mr Justice Bean said: “It is too easy in this court to overlook the details of the facts in a case of this kind and the impact which they have. “Although the defendant is an old man, we do not consider that age can be anything like a determinative factor in a case of this kind. “Even when imposed on a man of the age of 76, we do not consider the total sentences of 25 years were manifestly excessive, nor indeed excessive at all.” The appeal was dismissed. January 2014 Jailed for 25 years : 76-year-old paedophile who raped three children A paedophile who raped three young children in the 1960s and ’70s has been jailed for 25 years. Duncan McGee, now 76, attacked and abused the youngsters in south Manchester almost 50 years ago. McGee was found guilty of 17 counts of rape and indecent assault after a trial at Manchester Crown Court. He was sentenced to 25 years. Between 1967 and 1974, McGee targeted two boys and one girl in south Manchester raping and indecently assaulting them. He was finally caught in January last year, after moving to Mansion Drive in Liverpool. Detective Sergeant Suzanne Keenaghan, based at Wythenshawe police station, said: “McGee is a sexual predator and got his kicks out of abusing those who are vulnerable. He continuously assaulted these children at whatever opportunity he could take and made their young lives a misery, ruining their childhood. “However, despite suffering for years, the victims showed bravery in coming forward and reporting what had happened to them to police which led to McGee’s arrest in January 2013. “This case proves that we will take all reports of abuse seriously, no matter when it took place, and we will thoroughly investigate the claims of victims. It also proves to those committing the crimes that we will leave no stone unturned and justice will eventually catch up with you.” McGee must sign the sex offenders register for life.
