BLACKBURN MAN RONAN WRIGHT ADMITS TO DOMESTIC ABUSE IN BLACKBURN COURT
A man from Blackburn, Ronan Wright, has pleaded guilty to serious domestic assault charges involving his former partner. Wright admitted to intentionally strangling her and causing actual bodily harm during an incident that took place on 21 February 2024. The court heard that Wright's attack was triggered by a paranoid reaction to a phone call from the victim’s sister. During the assault, he reportedly slammed her head against the floor, strangled her, and kicked her in the stomach, despite knowing she might have been pregnant; she subsequently suffered a miscarriage. The victim shared a statement online, describing a relationship filled with ongoing psychological and physical abuse, including coercive control, violent outbursts, property damage, and the non-consensual sharing of intimate videos. Neighbours reportedly recorded multiple instances of Wright’s abuse through adjoining walls, which authorities later secured as evidence.
Wright initially denied the charges, entering three not-guilty pleas during lengthy proceedings spanning a year. However, he changed his plea just days before the trial was scheduled to start. Prosecutors from the CPS confirmed that, due to his last-minute confession and applicable sentencing guidelines, Wright is likely to be given a suspended sentence. His sentencing has been postponed and is set for a later date. A restraining order is also expected to be imposed.
Support services continue to encourage victims of domestic abuse to come forward for help. Under Clare’s Law, individuals can request police information regarding a partner’s previous history of violence or abuse, providing an additional layer of protection.
