April 2017 Sex offender jailed for more offences A 68-year-old man has been sentenced after being found guilty of historical sex offences. Femi Rotimi, who was previously serving 22 year sentence at HMP Garth, was jailed for a further seven years after a hearing at Preston Crown Court. Rotimi was jailed in 2015 for sexual offences against two girls. He was re-arrested after the publicity around his imprisonment prompted another victim to come forward who alleged Rotimi had abused her in the Blackburn area between 1980 and 1983. Rotimi had pleaded not guilty, but following a three-day trial last month was convicted of six offences of attempted rape and three counts of indecent assault on a child aged between 13 and 15. His sentence was extended by seven years, with Rotimi now jailed for a total of 29 years. Over a period of seven years grandfather Femi Rotimi, 66, won the trust of their mother, a devout churchgoer, abusing that trust to carry out a sickening catalogue of abuse against the young girls. Handing down the sentence, which will see Rotimi spending most of his life behind bars, Judge Graham Knowles, sentencing, described the predator as “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” after hearing how both girls had been left feeling depressed and suicidal.
