RONALD LOWTHER CAUGHT IN LEEDS FOR VORACIOUS VOYEURISM AND SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING TEEN GIRLS
In January 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Ronald Lowther, a resident of Leeds, who was found to have committed multiple serious sexual offences, including voyeurism and the exploitation of underage girls. The incident came to light after Lowther installed a covert camera in the bathroom ceiling of his property in Leeds, which he used to secretly record two teenage girls while they were in the bath.
According to court reports, Lowther, aged 53 and residing on Aston Road in Bramley, set up the hidden device while installing speakers in his bathroom.
The camera was connected to a live feed on his mobile phone, allowing him to monitor the footage remotely.
Leeds Crown Court heard that Lowther used a specialized app to stream real-time images from the camera, which enabled him to observe the girls without their knowledge or consent.
The criminal activity was uncovered when the images captured by the camera appeared on Lowther’s mobile device.
Upon discovering the footage, the police were immediately contacted, leading to a thorough investigation.
During the examination of his phone, authorities recovered a file containing images that indicated Lowther had engaged in the offence of exposure, further compounding his criminal record.
Further inquiries revealed that Lowther’s offending extended beyond voyeurism.
Investigators uncovered evidence of multiple sex offences involving young girls.
These included taking indecent photographs of children, possessing such images, and other related crimes.
The court was informed that Lowther had committed sexual offences against girls under the age of 16, including sexual assault of a girl under 13, engaging in sexual activity with a girl under 16, and inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual acts.
He also faced charges of engaging in sexual activity with a girl under 16 on two separate occasions.
Lowther pleaded guilty to a total of 11 sexual offences, which reflected a pattern of predatory behavior.
During the pre-sentence hearing, it was noted that Lowther attempted to minimize the extent of his offending.
Nevertheless, the court recognized the need for intervention and ordered that he participate in a sex offender rehabilitation program.
As part of his sentence, Lowther was subjected to a community order for two years, during which he is required to attend 31 sessions of the Horizon accredited sex offender program.
Additionally, he must complete 30 days of rehabilitation activities, perform 150 hours of unpaid work, and adhere to strict supervision conditions to prevent further offending.
