Dec 2010 Paedophile jailed for ‘campaign of rape’ against girls A PAEDOPHILE who went on the run has finally been brought to justice for a sickening “campaign of rape” against two young girls. Depraved Alec Moule, who has been wanted by police since Christmas 2005, was caught after officers cornered him in a dramatic clifftop hunt on the Devon coast in August this year. The 44-year-old was jailed for an indefinite jail term on Monday. He will not be eligible for parole for eight years. He has been placed on the sex offenders’ register for life after pleading guilty to a catalogue of rape and sexual assault charges against the two girls over a seven-year period when they were aged between nine and 14 years old. At the sentencing at Leeds Crown Court, Judge Christopher Batty said Moule posed “a serious risk to children”. The court heard how the girls told police they had been abused by Moule for years, which started with touching and eventually led to rape after he plied them with alcohol. Eventually police tracked Moule down in Skipton, North Yorkshire, in 2006 and he denied the allegations. Moule moved to Bridlington and became well known with the local fishing community, having worked digging bait. After answering his bail at Bridlington Police Station he fled before he was due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on June 16, 2010. However, he was tried in his absence and was found guilty. Moule, who lived in the Leeds area when the offences took place, was finally caught in August after members of the public contacted Devon and Cornwall Police and reported seeing a man acting suspiciously. Officers found him and managed to make the arrest in dangerous conditions on the edge of a cliff as it was getting dark. It is thought that Moule had fled to the Devon area and was living off the land, earning money by digging up worms on the beach and selling them to fishermen. Judge Batty said: “It seems to me that this is a campaign of rape. “The fact of the matter is, you are sexually attracted to girls of that age and I am satisfied that there is a serious risk of you committing serious sexual crimes again.”
