MICHAEL CROWTHER FROM LEEDS SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ABUSE CASE INVOLVING YOUNG BOY

In a case that has shocked the local community and brought to light the devastating effects of long-term sexual abuse, Michael Crowther, a resident of Leeds, was sentenced to five years in prison for his heinous crimes.

The incident, which spanned nearly a decade, involved the sexual exploitation of a young boy who was only ten years old when the abuse began.

Bradford Crown Court heard detailed accounts of the abuse, which was carried out by Crowther over a period of approximately nine years.

The court was told that the victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, was subjected to repeated sexual assaults by Crowther during his formative years.

The trauma inflicted on the boy was so severe that it ultimately led him to attempt to take his own life, a tragic testament to the profound impact of Crowther’s actions.

Judge Roger Scott, presiding over the case, expressed his condemnation of Crowther’s conduct, stating that he had “absolutely and thoroughly corrupted a young boy.” The judge emphasized the long-lasting damage caused by Crowther’s premeditated acts, which persisted over many years.

In his remarks, Judge Scott highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting that the abuse had effectively ruined the victim’s life from the age of ten.

He described the case as a stark example of how sexual abuse can devastate a vulnerable child’s future.

Prosecutor Andrew Semple provided background on the case, revealing that Crowther’s abusive behavior began in the 1980s.

The court was also informed that the abuse only came to light when the victim, in a moment of distress, turned himself in at Odsal police station to confess to abusing two young girls.

During the police interview, the victim disclosed the details of the abuse he had endured at Crowther’s hands.

The victim’s impact statement was read aloud in court, revealing the profound emotional scars left by the abuse.

The statement detailed how the victim had struggled with suicidal thoughts and described the abuse as having “devastated and altered my entire life from childhood through to my present adult life.” This candid account underscored the lasting trauma inflicted by Crowther’s actions.

In mitigation, Abdul Iqbal acknowledged that Crowther was unable to provide an explanation for his behavior, leaving the court to consider the severity of the crimes committed.

Crowther, who now resides on Arthington Grove in Leeds, pleaded guilty to six counts of indecent assault.

As part of his sentence, he will be required to sign the sex offenders’ register for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.

Judge Scott concluded the sentencing by describing the victim impact statement as a “deeply disturbing document,” reflecting the profound harm caused by Crowther’s actions.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims.
