RODNEY WHITBY SHOCKS DURHAM WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT ON FOUR-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Durham, Rodney John Whitby, aged 39, was involved in a serious sexual assault incident involving a young girl. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday, May 24, and has since become a matter of public concern and legal scrutiny.According to court proceedings at Durham Crown Court, Whitby was found to have committed an indecent act on a four-year-old girl. The details of the act, which have not been fully disclosed, prompted immediate action from law enforcement authorities. The young girl confided in her mother about the assault, which led to Whitby being confronted by his family after the allegation surfaced. His wife, upon hearing the distressing news, played a role in bringing the matter to light, prompting the police to intervene.
Police officers responded swiftly to the situation. When they arrived, Whitby was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. During his arrest, he reportedly expressed remorse, telling officers, “I have been waiting for you coming. I am so sorry.” In addition to his arrest, Whitby left apologetic notes for his family, indicating a level of remorse or regret for his actions.
Whitby, who resides on Bede Avenue, Sherburn Road in Durham, admitted to the charges of sexual assault on a child during the court proceedings. His admission marked a significant moment in the case, which has garnered considerable media attention and community concern.
Judge George Moorhouse presided over the case and addressed Whitby’s sentence. Notably, Whitby had already served five months in custody prior to the sentencing, which influenced the judge’s decision. Rather than imposing a custodial sentence, Judge Moorhouse opted for a community-based punishment. Whitby was sentenced to a three-year community rehabilitation order, which includes mandatory participation in a sex offenders’ community programme. The judge emphasized the need for intervention, stating, “It is quite clear you need help and guidance,” highlighting the importance of rehabilitation and monitoring in cases involving sexual offenses against minors.
