ROBIN MELLOR AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENCES IN HOLSWORTHY AND KENT
A former educator from Devon has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of heinous historical sexual offenses against children. Robin Mellor, aged 74 and residing on North Street in Braunton, was convicted of abusing two young victims during the 1970s and 1980s. His criminal activities came to light after a lengthy investigation into allegations of child abuse.Mellor previously worked at multiple primary schools across Kent, where he exploited his position of trust to commit his depraved acts. The abuse reportedly took place during private tutoring sessions at his residence in the town of Ditton, where he would invite pupils for lessons. It was during these sessions that Mellor engaged in disturbing and illegal conduct.
One of his victims, an 11-year-old girl, was subjected to repeated abuse over a period of approximately eighteen months. During this time, Mellor would show her pornographic images and force her to imitate what she saw, a pattern of exploitation that caused significant trauma. The details of this abuse were reported by Kent Live, highlighting the prolonged nature of the victimization.
In addition to this, Mellor assaulted a second girl during another tutoring session at his home. On this occasion, he attempted to engage her in sexual activity and committed an indecent act in her presence, further demonstrating his predatory behavior.
The investigation into Mellor's conduct intensified in January of the previous year when authorities arrested him and formally charged him with multiple offenses. The charges included five counts of indecent assault on a child and one count of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency. During the course of the investigation, officers seized Mellor’s computer and discovered twenty illegal images of children, leading to additional charges of making indecent images of a child.
Mellor maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to all charges. He chose to face trial at Maidstone Crown Court, where the victims’ testimonies and evidence presented by prosecutors painted a clear picture of his misconduct. After a thorough trial, the jury found Mellor guilty on all counts on Thursday, March 7.
Following his conviction, Mellor was sentenced to six years in prison. Furthermore, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which imposes restrictions on his activities and contact with minors. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
Detective Sergeant Rob Grieve commented on the case, stating, “Robin Mellor grossly abused his position of trust as a teacher and tutor, in order to sexually abuse children. Today’s sentence will not take away the emotional and physical trauma his victims were made to endure as children, but it will hopefully bring some closure.”
He continued, “Mellor was a teacher at several primary schools in west Kent, including areas such as Ditton and Larkfield, and we cannot rule out the possibility that he may have committed further offenses that have not yet been reported. I would like to thank the two victims for their bravery in coming forward and helping bring Mellor to justice. I hope their courage encourages other victims of sexual abuse to contact police. We are committed to treating victims with dignity and conducting thorough investigations into any allegations.”
