ROBERT ROBINSON FROM WALLASEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES IN WIRRAL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Wallasey and the wider Wirral area, Robert Robinson has been sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered a significant collection of illegal child abuse images stored on his personal computer. The investigation began when police forces operating in the southern regions of the country linked Robinson to the distribution and possession of these disturbing materials, leading to a targeted raid on his residence.Robinson's home, located on Kinglake Road in Wallasey, was subjected to a police search in February 2010. During the operation, officers seized his computer for forensic analysis. An initial examination revealed the presence of nearly 3,000 images and videos depicting child abuse, a finding that prompted further investigation. Despite the evidence, Robinson maintained his innocence during police interviews, denying any involvement in the creation or distribution of such content.
Following the detailed forensic analysis, authorities confirmed the existence of a total of 2,991 illicit images and videos on Robinson’s computer. Among these, 422 photographs and nine videos were classified within the most severe categories of child abuse imagery, highlighting the gravity of the material stored on his device. Prosecutor Kim Egerton presented these findings at Liverpool Crown Court, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the content.
Robinson, aged 58, pleaded guilty to 12 counts of making indecent images of children. However, he denied a further charge of distributing such images, which was subsequently ordered to be left on file. The court heard that Robinson had a prior conviction from 1991, when he was sentenced to eight months in prison for indecently assaulting two children. This history underscored the seriousness of his current offenses.
Judge John Roberts addressed Robinson directly during sentencing, acknowledging his health issues, including breathing difficulties attributed to his previous career as a welder. Despite these health concerns, the judge emphasized that the severity of the crimes warranted a custodial sentence. Robinson was therefore sentenced to 18 months in prison. Additionally, the judge ordered him to register as a sex offender for five years and imposed an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order, restricting his access to the internet to prevent further offenses.
Robinson’s defense lawyer, David Ackerley, highlighted his client’s personal circumstances, describing him as a grandfather suffering from significant health problems and debt. Ackerley noted that Robinson is approximately £18,000 in debt and faces the repossession of his home, which has an outstanding mortgage of £116,000. The lawyer also pointed out Robinson’s ongoing health issues, including breathing difficulties, which have been linked to his former occupation as a welder. Despite these mitigating factors, the court determined that the nature of the crimes was too serious to overlook, resulting in the custodial sentence and additional restrictions aimed at safeguarding the community from further harm.
