ROBERT RALPH FROM SOUTHAMPTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN HAVANT
In August 2007, a deeply disturbing case emerged involving Robert Ralph, a man from Southampton who was convicted of heinous crimes against a young girl from the Havant area.Ralph, aged 36 at the time, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a female child under the age of 13 and of inciting her to engage in sexual activity.
The crimes took place in 2005 and have left a lasting impact on the victim and her family.
Ralph, who worked as a septic tank cleaner, was sentenced to three years in prison for each of the charges, with the sentences to run concurrently.
This means he will serve approximately 18 months behind bars before being released.
Additionally, he will be required to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for the rest of his life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his future activities.
The mother of the young girl, who has chosen to remain anonymous for legal reasons, expressed her anguish and outrage over the case.
She described her daughter as being deeply affected by the abuse, which occurred two years prior.
She stated, 'She is angry and upset and has not got over it.
That man is a total monster who almost destroyed my daughter.' The mother also emphasized the ongoing emotional toll, saying, 'It has left us very shaken and it will not be easy for her.' She revealed that her daughter is now undergoing counseling in an effort to help her recover from the trauma.
She added, 'My daughter has been through hell.
She is constantly angry and upset.
She is just a little girl, she should not be going through this.' The case has highlighted the importance of safeguarding children and the devastating impact of such crimes.
Ralph, formerly residing on Cuckmere Lane in Southampton, was brought to justice after a thorough investigation by Hampshire Constabulary’s Child Abuse unit.
Detective Sergeant Matthew Gillooly commented on the case, saying, 'It was a difficult investigation due to the age of the victim, but a thorough investigation was carried out in close liaison with the Crown Prosecution Service.
We feel a just sentence has been handed down to Robert Ralph.' He also praised the bravery of the young girl and her family, noting that she had to give evidence via video link—a process that is often distressing for children.
Det Sgt Gillooly concluded by warning the public about the dangers posed by individuals who target children, emphasizing that such offenders are a potential risk to society as a whole.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and protective measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
