ROBERT MAUGER FROM GUERNSEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has once again cast a shadow over the community of Guernsey, Robert Mauger, a 31-year-old former police officer, has been sentenced to a five-year prison term for possessing a significant collection of indecent images and videos of children. This conviction marks the second time Mauger has faced serious charges related to child exploitation, highlighting a troubling pattern of behavior.According to court records, Mauger pleaded guilty to five counts of making indecent images of children. The images and videos in question include a total of 350 movies and 130 photographs, which were discovered during investigations into his activities. The Royal Court heard that Mauger’s actions involved the downloading and possession of these illicit materials, which are considered highly disturbing and illegal.
In a previous case back in March 2013, Mauger, then aged 27, was convicted on 11 counts of making indecent images of children. During that sentencing, he was given a three-year prison sentence after admitting to downloading nearly 3,000 indecent images and over 50 hours of video depicting child abuse. The offences in that case spanned from December 2006 to June 2012, revealing a prolonged period of illicit activity.
Advocate Samuel Steel, representing Mauger in the recent case, read a heartfelt letter from the defendant to the court. In the letter, Mauger expressed feelings of worthlessness and shame, acknowledging the gravity of his actions and the impact they have had on his life and reputation.
Judge Russell Finch, presiding over the case, described the collection of videos as “disgusting,” emphasizing the severity of the offences. While he took into account Mauger’s previous good character and his guilty plea, the sheer volume of illicit images and videos was a significant factor in the decision to impose a lengthy prison sentence. The court’s ruling underscores the serious nature of possessing and distributing child exploitation material, and it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against such crimes in Guernsey.
