February 2015 ‘Perverted predator’ jailed for sex offences against a schoolgirl A “perverted predator” with “an addiction to sending inappropriate images” has been sentenced to three years and nine months in jail. Garrett Moon, 28, pleased guilty at Guernsey’s Royal Court to 10 charges including inciting a 14-year-old girl to commit an act of gross indecency. Judge Russell Finch told Moon: “Young girls need to be protected from perverted predators like you. “You are a danger to vulnerable youngsters,” he said. “The only thing in your favour is a guilty plea.” The judgement included conditions, which must be met for 30 months after release. Garrett Moon had previous convictions relating to sending grossly offensive messages The court heard Moon contacted the girl via Facebook in March and, after obtaining her phone number from her profile, sent her naked pictures of himself via Whatsapp. The girl blocked him, but he continued to approach her in an attempt to arrange a meeting, which never happened. She told police the pictures had made her feel sick, but they were only discovered when officers were examining her phone for an unconnected investigation. Moon admitted seven charges of sending indecent messages and images between March and June last year. On 8 June, police found him at St Julian’s House, a homeless shelter, but when they asked to look at his phone he pushed an officer to the floor and tried to run away. Defence Advocate Phoebe Cobb said Moon had “an addiction to sending inappropriate images”, but there was no “malicious element” to his actions. Moon was sentenced to 30 months for inciting the girl to commit an act of gross indecency, 12 months for each of the indecent images charges – to be served concurrently, three months for assaulting an officer and seven days for resisting arrest.
